The company's commitment to sustainability has been recognized. Wenger Feeds recently became the only agribusiness in Lancaster County to earn Green Plus certification. The certification, bestowed by the Institute for Sustainable Development, is based on sustainability in three areas—people including employees, community engagement, and awareness building; planet including energy, transportation, water, waste reduction and green purchasing; and performance including organizational planning, documentation, financial information, human resources, and future planning.

Providing continuous learning and training are keys to employee development. Over 2,000 total hours of training were completed by our employees in 2010.

With six locations throughout the mid-Atlantic region, many communities are touched and supported. Direct support focuses on local organizations such as fire companies, 4-H, FFA, and special areas of need. Over 50 organizations received financial support.

Designated funds spent yearly on environmental leadership projects including lighting retrofits at the office, Rheems, Mill, and egg warehouse, the use of biodiesel, and ongoing waste reduction strategies
Nutrient Management
Participation in Chesapeake Bay National Fish and Wildlife Federation grant to remove nutrients from the Bay (measure tons of manure removed)
Export all production facility manure, with nutrient balance sheets and licensed manure haulers and brokers (number of tons exported to number of haulers and brokers)
Attending meetings and submitting comments for the Chesapeake Bay TMDL and the DEP Manure manual
Precision feeding
Phytase added to all feed formulas to improve phosphorus absorption, prevent excretion, and protect ground water. In the past 5 years, we have reduced the amount of phosphorous in our feeds by a total of 34,600 tons.
Operates four research houses to test new ingredients, formulations, and management techniques.
