A Valuable Management Tool

Wenger Feeds has been collecting and recording layer flock records since the 1970s and has extensive performance data on various breeds of layer flocks that accurately reflect what a producer can expect to achieve from his/her flock. Flock information is transmitted to us weekly by producers and layer service staff. After all the data has been entered, the confidential information for each layer flock is generated and distributed to the producer, flock owners, and to Wenger’s sales and service people. Each report is an evaluation of the flock’s performance compared to other producers with similar breeds and with the industry breeder standards.

 

Wenger’s layer service staff is checking feed, lighting, air, and water every time they enter a house. These four areas are the most critical to bird health and production. With layer records, barn trends can be checked even when the service person is not there. When you look over the records, you can quickly see the type of feed and any additives the birds are eating. The lighting program is recorded there as well, and the air quality is monitored by the high and low temperatures reported. Water consumption is recorded and can be referenced to the average high temperature to justify increased consumption. With Layer Records, many barn managers acknowledge, you are able to monitor bird health from the records and adjust house management to stop health issues from developing into serious problems.

 

The records do not replace daily monitoring of the flock by barn workers. They are simply another tool that Wenger Feeds provides to its customers to help them make better decisions and maximize performance. The feed consumption and egg production numbers also aid in the use of Wenger Feeds’s phase feeding programs.
