A healthy pullet is the starting point for any successful and profitable flock, and Wenger’s has the experience, facilities, and capacity to raise productive cage and cage-free flocks of both white and brown birds. Service technicians have over 60 years of combined experience in pullet service, and the company has raised pullets for over 30 years.

Wenger Feeds Pullet Services utilizes a team of service technicians and one vaccination service technician to supervise pullet growing, administer custom vaccination programs, monitor feeding and lighting programs, and perform regular flock service. In addition, the team is backed by a Quality Assurance Department including a fully-staffed laboratory that, among other analyses, offers blood testing to monitor bird health.

Wenger Feeds Pullet Services grows 9 million pullets a year by contracting pullet growing services from over 50 independent family farms in Central Pennsylvania. Pullet growing facilities include a variety of cage and cage-free barns to match any layer house.

Raise them the Right Way: Cage Free Production

Cage-Free eggs are a growing segment of the egg market, and efficient cage-free egg production requires cage-free pullets. Pullets grown in cage-free barns use the perches and learn to navigate the house. Cage-free pullets are moved into the layer barn at 16 weeks so they can then learn to use the nest boxes. By avoiding floor eggs, your properly raised cage-free pullets can eventually save you valuable time and improve production in the barn.

Flock Services

Wenger Feeds Flock Services’ programs are designed to assist the producer or grower in flock management and maximize flock productivity in layer, pullet, broiler, or turkey flocks. Based in Rheems, Pennsylvania, technicians service farms in the Mid-Atlantic region. Flock Services Logo
Services Available
Licensed flock service technicians are available on-call 24-hours a day and provide a variety of services including pullet scheduling, production management, health management, guidance for food safety and animal care guideline implementation, and testing for live poultry market health certificates.

Our service technicians have over 100 years of combined experience and are available for regular farm visits to review flock records, check equipment, and perform bird necropsy to look for the hidden signs of disease. Flock Services customers value regular flock service as their sentinel, “I value having my technician on the farm regularly to check things out. Recently, he found signs of disease in the flock during a routine exam. We were able to catch it so early that we did not see an impact on production.”

Prevent Costly Production Drops
By preventing a ½% drop in egg production for 100,000 birds at 85% production, you gain 35.5 dozen eggs/day or 248.5 dozen eggs/week.

Broiler service customers also gain real world dollars by preventing production drops. By reducing mortality and condemnations each by 1% in a 30,000 bird barn, the benefit is an additional 600 birds sold.

In addition to regular farm visits, service technicians can help you or your growers prepare for a food safety, animal care, or specialty certification audit. As Egg Production Manager Doug Stone explains, “Auditing can be stressful for the producer and follow-up audits can be expensive and time consuming. We can help you or your growers prepare to meet audit requirements and keep your farm in compliance.”

By comparing results to historical flock records and breed standards, technicians are able to evaluate key performance indicators like eggs per hen housed, feed conversion, and percent production. Understanding and managing these metrics is critical to running a successful operation.
